Repair or replace?
Grease Trap Repair vs. Replacement: Which Option Is Right?
| Repairing it | Replacing it | |
|---|---|---|
| What you pay | Typically under half the cost of replacement | A new trap, plus the work of taking out the old one and putting in the new |
| Your kitchen | Stays open: the repair happens overnight | Ask how long the kitchen would be affected |
| Before any work | A free on-site inspection | Building plan approval and an Industrial Waste approval letter, before the new trap is bought |
| After the work | Guaranteed to pass inspection, and a 10-year warranty as long as the trap gets regular pump-outs | Ask what warranty comes with the new trap |
How we work
Our Grease Trap Service Process
We begin by understanding the problem and assessing the grease trap or interceptor at your property. After the inspection, we explain the condition of the system and discuss suitable options for repair, installation, replacement, or other required services.
For repair work, scheduling can be coordinated around your restaurant or commercial kitchen’s operating hours when feasible. If the system requires pumping before repairs, you will need to arrange waste removal with a properly permitted hauler. Our goal is to provide clear information so you can make an informed decision about your grease management system.
Austin’s rules
What Austin’s code asks of a grease trap
Under City Code § 15-10-197, a grease trap has to be completely emptied on a schedule. At least every three months, or sooner if grease and solids reach 50% of its wetted height. Wetted height is the depth of liquid in the trap, measured from its floor to the lowest point of the outlet pipe. Austin Water enforces the rules.
When a business has received actual notice of Austin’s wastewater rules and still breaks them, the City can sue for civil penalties. The amount can reach up to $5,000 a day for each violation (§ 15-10-252).
Keeping to the schedule matters, but it isn’t the whole story. A trap that’s emptied on time can still fail if it’s damaged, because pumping empties a trap without fixing it.

Questions about grease trap repair in Austin
Can a cracked or corroded grease trap be repaired?
Most can. We repair cast concrete, steel and fiberglass traps, underground or above ground: holes, cracks, corrosion, broken baffle walls, and the parts inside. A free on-site inspection shows whether yours can be saved.
Will my restaurant have to close?
No. The repair is done overnight, after your kitchen has closed, and the trap is ready the next morning.
Do you pump grease traps too?
No. In Austin, grease trap waste has to be removed by a liquid waste hauler permitted by the City of Austin, so book your pump-outs with one. Your hauler empties the trap before we repair it.
What does the 10-year warranty cover, and what does it ask of me?
It covers labor and materials. It stays valid as long as the trap gets regular pump-outs on the city’s own schedule, which in Austin means at least every three months, or sooner once grease and solids reach 50% of the wetted height.
